I cannot locate contact information, previous text messages, including photos of an acquaintances, iPhone or smart phone. Is it possible they can delete information that already reached my phone, including their contact information.

How long do you sync messages? Open Settings > scan all the way down to the bottom of the page and tap Apps > Look for and tap Messages > Go down the page to Message History - you have the option to Keep Messages for 30 days, 1 Year or Forever. If you have 30 days or one year and the messages were from before either time frame, they would be deleted and once deleted, they are gone.
