Spotlight indexing Photos Library Q

2020 M1 MacBook Air, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, MacOS 14.7.5 (Sonoma)

To free up space on the internal SSD, I moved the Photos Library to an external SSD. When I do this Spotlight seems to be indexing the external SSD endlessly. When I want to disconnect the external SSD, I get the “in use” popup message. I have to shut down the laptop to disconnect.

Is there something unique about Photos Library that makes Spotlight take so much time indexing it?

The Photos Library consists of a sqlite database and countless tiny files, not just your images & thumbnails. It can take Spotlight a long time to index a Photos Library especially if it is large.
