Why does my iPhone show a different AirPods 2 serial number?

Hi,

I recenly bought a set of Airpods 2. The serial number on the box, pods and case all match and return the expected information when I look up the coverage on Apple.

However my iphone picks them up with a different serial number and as a model: A2084 which is a set of gen 1s. The mysupport portal displays the same serial as my phone and cannot find coverage information.

If I look up the serial number that apple references on coverage lookup. It tells me the serial has been replaced.

Very confused. The numbers on the physical product say one thing. Apple says another.

Will add that device works fine...

Box was sealed when purchased.

Any help please?

They sound fake to me as well. Counterfeiters can stamp any number they want and in most cases, they just copy a number from a legitimate pair. I suspect these were purchased from a third party. I would suggest you return them if you can.
