Mac Studio M4 Max overheating

Hi!

I was running linear algebra routines in Julia and I observed that the Mac Studio M4 Max almost instantly overheats on dense matrix multiplication. The power meter showed 145W with just the 12 performance cores loaded and the temperatures shot up to 109C!

I documented my steps in this video for others to reproduce: https://youtu.be/ptLWTCIItd4

It seems to me at the very least that the default fan profile is far too slow to react to the increased power load on the CPU.

Has anyone else observed a similar issue? If so, how did you address it?

Un-encumbered by a deep understanding of all the issues, i thought that matrix manipulation, especially single-operand multi-data operations are best performed by the graphics processors, and if high precision or huge exponents are not required, by the Neural engine.

I understand there are some numerical libraries that Apple offers that can greatly speed up such processing, by dispatching number-crunching to numeric processors.

is that of any interest for your calculations?
