How can I know if my Apple Wallet is used to pay for a subscription?

I want to understand if Apple Wallet is used to pay for a subscription (not in the App Store but Web, etc), how a customer can view and cancel these?

  • If a customer signs up using Apple Wallet, can a customer view & manage that subscription via setting or wallet, along with canceling/revoking payments?
  • Are customers notified of any upcoming payments?
  • If the above is true, how long has that been a feature for?

Apple Wallet itself doesn’t really manage subscriptions outside of the App Store. If you sign up for a subscription via a website or third-party app, Apple Wallet will store the payment method, but you’ll need to go to the service's website or app to cancel or manage it.

For App Store subscriptions, though, you can easily manage them in your iPhone’s settings (Settings > Your Name > Subscriptions). Unfortunately, if it’s not an App Store subscription, you're kinda stuck using the provider’s platform to make changes.

As for notifications, Apple does send reminders for subscriptions through the App Store, but if you sign up somewhere else, you’d have to rely on the service itself to notify you about upcoming payments. This subscription management setup has been around for a while now, but yeah, Wallet doesn’t handle all of it.

From what I can see this is now (Maybe with a new update) incorrect - you can see active apple pay subscritoipon in the Apple Wallet.

I can see this within my own apple wallet & on their support page, the infomration provied from the two comments appears to be outdated.

I do see that you can manage the token given to the merchant for subscription by revoking them in your wallet instead of contacting your bank to have the token removed. I have not been able to verify on my device that it works. The ambiguous part of Support Article are the points here:

To manage or revoke a pre-authorised payment, visit the merchant’s website or app. If needed, you can also revoke a pre-authorised payment in the Wallet app.

  • When you revoke a pre-authorised payment in the Wallet app, your subscription or other associated payments won’t be cancelled. Instead, Apple will ask the merchant not to charge the Apple Pay payment method for the transaction.
  • In some cases, charges may still occur. To be certain that you won’t be charged, go to the merchant’s site or app to manage your payment preferences directly with the merchant.

With pre-authorised payments, the terms of your service are between you and the merchant.

It is also dependent on the card that you have added to the Wallet, which may be the reason why it is not seen on my end. I also have not seen a list of participating banks where it is possible.

  • With supported cards, you can view these preauthorized payments in the Wallet app.

“I want to understand if Apple Wallet is used to pay for a subscription (not in the App Store but Web, etc), how a customer can view and cancel these?”

The feature was introduced in iOS 18.4 released a few days ago. It’s accessed through the More button in the Apple Wallet app. They can be viewed and canceled in the same section.

  • “If a customer signs up using Apple Wallet, can a customer view & manage that subscription via setting or wallet, along with canceling/revoking payments?”

Please see my comments above.

  • Are customers notified of any upcoming payments?

Not unless the subscription service provides that feature. Your subscriptions are anonymous to Apple. They have no way of providing a notification service.

  • “If the above is true, how long has that been a feature for?”

It’s not a feature that’s available.

You’re welcome. Apple moved this feature to a more prominent and easily accessible location in adding it to the More button at first level and not drilling into each card.

I believe it was actually introduced last fall, but only accessible through accessing the card in Wallet first, then More button and Card Details.

If the bank chooses to notify card holder, and notification is enabled in Wallet, a message about upcoming transactions could occur.
