Can I sell or exchange my iPhone 15 Pro Max at an Apple Store in the US?

Hello everyone! This is my first question in the community. I'm new to the Apple world. A few months ago I bought an iPhone 15 Pro Max, but today I received a new iPhone as a gift. In a few weeks, I'm traveling to the US, and I wanted to know if I can sell that iPhone 15 Pro Max at an Apple Store in the US or if I can exchange it for a product other than an iPhone. Can someone help me with this question? Thank you very much!

Apple stores in the US generally don’t buy back used devices outright for resale. But they do have a trade-in program where you can exchange your old device for credit toward a new purchase. The catch is that it’s usually limited to getting credit for other Apple products—so if you're thinking of getting, say, an iPad or MacBook, that could work.

If you want to trade in your iPhone 15 Pro Max for something else, the credit will go toward any Apple product, but if you’re looking for straight-up cash, you’re probably better off trying somewhere like Best Buy or an independent store that buys phones directly.

Also, keep in mind that the trade-in value can depend on the condition of the phone, so it might be worth checking Apple’s trade-in estimator online before you go to the store. Hopefully, the trade-in process goes smoothly for you.

From your post, when you say you are traveling to the US, I am assuming that you don’t live there and you bought the iPhone elsewhere. While the Apple Trade In Program can be done internationally, there are some caveats.

When you Trade In your iPhone, you can receive the credit towards the purchase of a another new product or in the form of a Gift Card. But whatever product you choose, that model will be intended for sale in the U.S., meaning if you intend to use it back where you live, there will be issues. For example, if you want service done on your iPhone, you will have to return to the U.S. for that. You may also find that certain features are different or restricted compared to your country's model.

If you plan to get it in the form of a Gift Card, that will only be redeemable in the U.S. The best option would still be to do the Trade In in your original country.

Hi, thanks for your response! I want to exchange that iPhone for other products, and I'm going to do it in the US. We don't have a physical Apple Store in my country yet, and buying online is more expensive because there are high taxes on international purchases. That's why I prefer to travel and exchange that iPhone for a gift card and use it in the US to buy some accessories.

Thank you so much for your help!

Oh I see. You’re very welcome! Enjoy your new Apple products!
