Why is my new iPhone 16e overheating during use?

Since purchasing, the Iphone 16E has gotten HOT almost every time it is being used not just when it was being setup the first time. I brought this issue up at the AT&T store at the time it was being setup. Salesclerk didn't respond except to say it does that when setting up. Sometimes it is so hot, I worry it will catch fire.

The phone has built in sensors to monitor temperature and if it gets too hot, you will see a message on your screen that will not allow you to continue using the device until it cools down.

If your iPhone or iPad gets too hot or too cold - Apple Support

If you have any doubt, take it to the Apple Store for diagnostics of the device. Not sure if you have an Apple Store near you, but the service options will be far better than what you would receive from an AT&T salesperson.

After you setup your iPhone, it must work extra hard to sort and move all your data to the right places. The iPhone also needs more energy to be able to introduce and use different features or functions incorporated with the setup. This can all cause increased thermal temperatures.

But this doesn’t mean your iPhone is overheating. If your iPhone really were to, it would display a Temperature Warning or Charging on Hold message, which would shut down the iPhone and prevent you from using it until it cools down. If you don’t get these messages, your iPhone is functioning normally as expected. If you do get these messages, and your iPhone is not in a hot place, there can be something wrong with your iPhone which would need to be taken a look at. In addition when you run heavy, high-intensity tasks, the iPhone can feel warmer.
