Unusual Touch Sampling Rate Behavior on iPhone 11 with iOS 18.2.3
Hello,
I’ve been noticing an unusual behavior on my iPhone 11 running iOS 18.2.3, and I’m hoping someone here might have encountered something similar or can provide insight.
I bought my iPhone 11 from the official Apple website back in 2019, and it has been reset several times throughout the years. Recently, I’ve been observing something strange regarding the screen’s refresh rate.
While using certain apps (like Safari, when scrolling), the phone seems to dynamically increase the touch sampling rate for a brief moment, sometimes going up to 61-62 Hz instead of the usual 60 Hz. Occasionally, I even saw it drop to 8 Hz for a split second. This happens especially when I engage in certain activities, like scrolling quickly or interacting with the screen, and it feels much smoother than normal.
Here’s the sequence of events:
- The screen usually shows around 60 Hz but occasionally spikes to 61-62 Hz when scrolling or swiping.
- On one occasion, I saw the touch sampling rate drop to 8 Hz for a split second.
- The phone has been reset multiple times, but this behavior persists.
- This iPhone has been used in the same household since purchase, so it hasn’t been tampered with or modified.
I’ve checked on TestUFO and similar sites, and they reflect this odd fluctuation in the touch response. I’m curious if anyone else has encountered something like this or if there’s any known explanation for such behavior.
Is this a bug or an undocumented feature? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
