Apple's latest OS ver 15.4 killed my chess program

A chess program I purchased from the Apple Store no longer works after installing the latest macOS Sequoia version 15.4. The icon just does absolutely nothing when clicked. Same with clicking or selecting "open" from the Finder -> Application folder.

So, from the Google I find this:

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Go to Security, then click Open.
  3. Click Open Anyway.
  4. This button is available for about an hour after you try to open the app.
  5. Enter your login password, then click OK.

Unfortunately it seems this is not up to date, as there is no option to "open" Security, it appears open already and I am given only two choices: App Store and know developers or App Store. There is no option to "Open Anyway" as the instructions imply.

Any suggestions on how to force this app (Tiger Chess Pro) to open? I have contacted the owner, he is looking into it as well.

It’s still not correct for this case.

This is probably the article to which you are referring:

Open a Mac app from an unknown developer - Apple Support

I believe there once was a right-click menu shortcut to force the opening of an app, but that Sequoia removed it, leaving the procedure described in the Support article as the only option; if it still is available.

Note Apple's warning:

"Overriding security settings to open an app is the most common way that a Mac gets infected with malware. You should not override security settings if an app hasn’t been checked by Apple, even if the app looks like it comes from a major developer. The safest approach is to look for a version of the app from the Mac App Store or look for an alternative app."

Yes and upon further investigations

refer below

The Developer may need to rework their application to meet the newer version of Sequoia 15.4 ?

That is the best guess I could offer

The thing is, there is a lot of room between macOS 11 and later versions plus Apple Silicon M1 and current version of macOS and M1 machines

The newer Apple Silicon machines have since evolved to the M2, M3 and the current M4 units

The "Open Anyway" option you were looking for is only apps that have been downloaded from a third party source and used an installer. That is not the case for any app downloaded from the App Store. Contacting the developer is the best way to resolve a problem such as this, and they will likely be able to issue an update. They did have an update a week ago, but you probably already have that one.

The only Tiger Chess Pro application I can find in the Apple Apps Store

Is designed to work on an iPad

Not all applications designed to iOS will automatically mean they will work on a different Platform >> macOS as example

You may consider asking the Developer if they plan on Porting the application to macOS

An iPhone or iPad app developer can tell the App Store to allow installation of their apps on Apple Silicon Macs. (Given the differences between iPhones, iPads, and Macs, not all do.)

The developer had me copy the program from my iPad and paste it into the application folder on my MacBook. That worked just fine… until it didn’t.

Maybe they ought to tell the App Store to allow installation on Apple Silicon Macs, instead.

That is, assuming there aren't any show-stoppers (e.g., in the UI)( that would make this inadvisable.

Makes sense from Apple’s point of view to not allow programs just dropped into the applications folder to run. Hoping the developer can change his program to include laptop's or Apple reinstates a “run regardless” option. (doubtful). In the meantime I wait.
