How to fix Messages app closing after macOS Sequoia 15.4 update?

Since updating to 15.4 my messages ap and Podcast app on my mac just shut down. They don't appear to crash since I don't receive a pop up stating the app has crashed. I don't appear to be having issues with any other apps. Suggestions on how to repair or fix?

This has been happening to me since the 15.4 update on an Air M2. No crash message, nothing in Console logs. Just... closed. It seems random. Might be 10 mins, might be 2 hours, but it will happen. I've safe-booted, and used Cocktail to clear all of the caches (then another reboot) as well. Never seen this behavior before. I should note it is NOT occurring on an M4 MBP, also at 15.4. Very frustrating.

I also started seeing this after the 15.4 update. So far I have only noticed it in the Messages app, but I do not consistently run any of the other apps that have been mentioned in this thread so far. Today, I saw odd behavior from Apple Music app (song would start, get to 1 second, and start over, in a never-ending loop), but I don't think that is related and just started today, while the Messages quitting issue has been ever since the 15.4 update.

I've clicked the "Me too" button but also wanted to add that I doubt it's memory pressure. I have 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD on a 15inch M2 MacBook Air and only the Messages app is disappearing (which didn't happen prior to 15.4). In my case it seems to happen while I'm not using the computer (eg. it's always gone after the screen locks and I return).

And now, because the fun never ends with the BS that is 15.4, Safari just crashed when I clicked on a YouTube link. Poof- gone. I had about 20 windows open, and Safari is set to reopen all windows from the last session, but of course when Safari relaunched ***NONE*** of my previous windows reopened. Great. Thanks so much Apple. This is the WORST, most BODGED update Apple has put out in many, many years. FIX IT APPLE. I am sick of wasting my time with Messages and Safari!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just noticed the same problem. I also had the stocks app close itself.

I think this may be a memory pressure issue as I noticed my Mac's memory pressure was yellow even though I wasn't really doing anything at the time. My M1 MBA only has 8 GB of RAM.

Same here. M1 Studio and an M4 MBP. Messages app, Stocks app, Carrot Weather, others. No notification, just the fact the apps have closed/crashed and aren't running. 15.4 introduced this issue. Hopefully a fix is forthcoming.
