Why does Siri suggest 'gods' and 'goddesses' instead of 'God' in Messages and Safari?

whenever i am typing a text in Messages or a search in Safari and i want to type "God" Siri always and only suggests "gods" or "goddesses". i never typed those words (until today just now) so the AI didn’t train from me. what gives Apple? I shudder to consider why this system is designed this way.

As you type a word and correct it if necessary, the predictive algorithm will learn. There's no sense in reading more into than that. Not everyone shares your religious beliefs or traditions. Many languages don't capitalize god even when referring to the Christian god.

I find that my iPhone usually wants to capitalize the word for me, which is annoying.

It’s called predictive text because it’s trying to predict the next possible letter(s) or phrase. Please see my example below.

It’s offering three possibilities. The current word as typed, and two additional predictions. It’s not assuming your thoughts or intentions, just looking at possible letters you might type next. It’s predictive text, not ESP.

Why all the assumptions about something you evidently know so little about?

The algorithm doesn’t know if you quit typing or not. It predicts what might happen. Here’s what I get when I type “g” and “go” and I don’t get god, goddess, predictions based on what I might type next.

Yes, it would show predictions if you typed god. AI doesn’t know if you’re continuing to type, if you misspelled, but just filling the three spaces with possibilities. How does AI know god is the end of your thought or phrase?

What experience are you expecting? AI doesn’t learn from just one typing. It takes repeated instances to learn, not just one time. As an example I frequently type Goldman Sachs in the community. The predictive text took weeks, maybe months to learn the word Sachs. Even today if I start to type the word, predictive text shows me “Sach” and “Sachets”. Why? Those are possible choices even after 3 years of typing Sachs nearly daily. It’s not ESP text.

Sorry if you find my tone, pushy or rude. I try to use emojis to indicate my intent, but I evidently offended you and you have my sincerest apologies . 😢

I appreciate your response however I’ve had iPhones since the 2nd model and I’ve typed God or Jesus countless times in messages, emails, and searches. Siri autocorrect consistently points me in another direction as I’ve explained. I’m not a religious ‘nut’ but most of my close friends are fellow believers and many of them have noticed the same AI behavior.

if it was learning from the interactions this would not be an issue after 15+ years of Apple ecosystem usage imo.

so why does it respond this way really?

Thank you Sir. I thought this was Apple monitored and replied to. My misunderstanding. I’ll take this question to their site. Sorry.

I realize this might seem an odd or intentionally inflammatory question to ask to some people. This has been frustrating me for over a decade and I finally did a search this morning, found several other threads on this site with similar questions but they had been closed so I decided to open a new thread to seek help/answers.

I personally respect all people all cultures all religions to the point that I support total and complete freedom of religious belief and expression provided that expression doesn’t harm others around us.

but my frustration due to this consistent AI behavior provided by the Apple ecosystem for over 15 years now starts to feel like religious oppression directed at me.

That’s good advice for anyone thanks. But it’s more the annoyance of having to stop my train of thought to type in something that by now after 15+ years it should have trained itself on.

And I think it’s logical to assume that if this device had been invented 75 years ago it likely would not be proffering up “gods and goddesses” when I’m trying to type “God”.

It’s not the capitalizing that’s the issue. I don’t expect the phone AI to know I like to capitalize Father, Him, Spirit, God, Sabbath, etc when I’m dictating a message to a friend. And I don’t expect apple to share my religious beliefs. I’m highly against the idea of expecting or enforcing religious beliefs on anyone else. That’s my personal business.

For 15 years whenever I type G…, or Go…, OR g…, or go…, what the AI suggests is “good”, or “gods”, or “goddesses” in that order. Each and every time. I do type “good” frequently but I’ve never typed “gods” or “goddesses” until today, so this is the opposite of AI learning my persuasions to make my messaging life easier.

And it HAS learned many of my friends names or special medical terms I use often and correctly offers them to me when I’m texting to speed up the process.

sorry but this is weird and strange behavior on the part of an AI supposedly designed to learn how to assist me.

I haven’t been pushy or rude in this thread so your tone is surprising and off-putting. If you had read my posts you would know I’m talking about what it offers when I’ve typed in “g” or “go”, if I’ve already typed the entire word “god” or “God” I wouldn’t be looking at the so called predictive values now, would I? And it’s always “good gods goddesses” for “g” or “go”. On my phone always.

as for my educational/knowledge credentials I hold degree in zoology, software development, and a medical doctorate. Also board certified general neurologist. Not that this should matter on this website, but you cattily brought it up.

Good day, sir.
