I've installed Sequoia and some apps, I now want to transfer remaining apps from my old Catalina MacBook

My new MacBook is up and running with Sequoia, but there are some apps on the old Mac that are no longer available to download. There's is one in particular, CorelCAD2020. I know I can transfer it with Migration Assistant, but what about all the other apps that will also get transferred at the same time, will it mess up the Sequoia installation?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 15.3

Take note of what the internet says.

CorelCAD 2020 was developed prior to the release of Apple's M1 chip and does not offer native support for Apple Silicon Macs. It is designed to run on Intel-based Macs with macOS High Sierra (10.13) or later versions, including macOS Catalina (10.15).  While it may be possible to run CorelCAD 2020 on an Apple Silicon Mac using Rosetta 2, this setup is not officially supported and could lead to performance issues or instability. For optimal performance and compatibility, consider upgrading to a more recent version of CorelCAD.

Instead of copying the app try using your original installation disk or disk image.

Bottom line? CorelCAD 2020 may or may not work on your new MacBook.

Thx 👍

Had OP's machine been an Apple Silicon Machine ( M1,M2,M3, M4 ) which they say is an Intel Machine

Personal preferences here 😎

One Size does Not fit All

If the new computer is the Apple Silicon  Computer - would suggest Only Migrating the User Account and nothing more.

The would have brought over anything in the User Account including emails, passwords etc

Some have had success and usually they are well seasoned veterans who are well versed in trouble shooting

Others have been left with a mess when Migrating everything.

Issues that may have existed on the older computer will be migrated to the New Computer.

This would badly pollute the new Original and Pristine installation of the new OS.

Applications, extensions and Software Drivers may or may not even work on the new computer.

IMHO - it would be best to only install new application etc Directly from the Developer or the Apple Apps Store.

Due Diligence on New Applications and make sure they are Sequoia compatible and factor in the ARMs CPU of the Apple Silicon Computer

Migration assistant moves only applications not part of the Apple system install. So Mail, safari remain, but the saved mail file from the old computer comes over, bookmarks come over, passwords come over.

It's a tradeoff. In my case I had migrated over the years thru several computers and done little purging and had things from 2006 to get rid of. I don't know which been easier, all new loading or the purging that I ended up doing. Having passwords transfer was especially attractive to me. Migration assistant will not mess up sequoia.

Since kenfrompershore has already been using Mail, probably the old mail file will overwrite what he has saved recently. Migration assistant is best considered before using the new computer and unfortunately it is not selective, all or nothing for reasons that are technical.

Have you tried doing it through disk utility? Connect the disk, then, open Disk Utility and then select "Restore". Then, choose the app and wait until the process has finished.

If this doesn't work, you can try connect your old machine via target disk mode Transfer files between two Mac computers using target disk mode - Apple Support (IL) (I'm not sure this will work)

CoralCAD2020 must be the 64 bit version to work in the new OS. If you migrate and other programs are not 64, they will have a "Do-not-enter" circle over them and you can (should) delete after migrating. They will not launch. And no harm will happen. IF you have a lot of old apps, you may want an app to help delete them and their related sys files. CoralCAD is a discontinued program, check for possible options with graebert.com/corelcad/

I haven’t a problem restoring through migration assistant, but it won’t let me copy individual apps, just all apps. My question is, when it also copies calc, mail, or Safari or calendar that are already on the new machine, will it harm the Sequoia install.

I would think, the Builtin Applications like those mentioned above

Would not be migrated into the newer computer because they would not be compatible with Sequoia

As for all the Other Third Party Applications

Why take the chance
