HP Laser 1008a is a Windows and Linux printer, without Mac support, according to:

The a printer is not listed as supported in About AirPrint - Apple Support (only a w model).

If nothing else helps, you could perhaps investigate whether a small and relatively inexpensive Linux-based Raspberry Pi print server and CUPS would allow a USB-connected HP Laser 1008a to be shared with a modern Mac (or iPhone/iPad) on a network in an AirPrint-like way. Look upon this as an experiment.

Details about a Raspberry Pi print server setup (for a USB connection to a Kyocera laser printer) can be found in the posts by Techguyuk in Can’t print with iPadOS17 - Apple Community. Tesserax reported about using a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ for an old HP LaserJet printer in Can I connect my laser printer to my netw… - Apple Community.

>System Setting> Privacy & Security> Local Network toggle on all related

>System Setting> Printers & Scanners (?)

Also, according to the HP Laser 1008a specifications, the model in question is using SPL (Samsung Printer Language).

This printer shows some similarities with Samsung models, such as the Xpress SL-M2020.

The experimentally inclined may want to check whether a Samsung Universal Print Driver V3.93.08 possibly could be used. However, the latest version is for macOS 13 Ventura, so it may not work at all. It may not even install. As always, before testing anything, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.
