Why is my new MacBook Air slow when deleting photos from iCloud?

ok bought MacBook Air m3 16gb ram 256gb ssd it was a demo sales laptop first thing I’m doing is going through all my old photos from iCloud and the task is slow videos take time to upload and are glitchy when watching them as I want to delete them if I don’t need them anymore the sound continues fine if I press explore on pictures or videos I get the rainbow beach ball and it will not go away until I force shutdown photos the laptop seems really slow for something I’m able to do on my iPhone X with almost a full drive only has 10 gig left of storage the new Mac has 40 gig of the 256 used at this time my question is have I bought a dud please help me

This makes little sense. Is this one sentence, or two? With no punctuation or Capitals, I'm having a hard time understanding what you mean.


256 GB is certainly limiting. Are you "going through all my old photos from iCloud" using the Photos app or using Safari?


Are you using Optimize Storage with Photos?
