How can I take a full page screenshot on macbook air?

Hi all,

I am new to Mac and got a new MacBook Air M3. I need to take a full page screenshot of a whole page on Mac for a web page, which a continuous page and about six screen size. I tried the built-in screenshot command (shift + command + 4) but it only screenshots the current active full page and it is not scrollable.

Is there any simple way to take a full page screenshot on Mac? This Mac is running macOS Sequoia.

To take a full page screenshot on Mac, you can use the built-in tools in Safari or use third-party extensions or applications. Here’s how to take a full page screenshot on Mac in both ways:

Using Safari

1. Open Safari: Launch Safari and navigate to the webpage you want to capture.

2. Enable the Develop Menu:

  • Go to Safari in the menu bar.
  • Select Preferences.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Check the box that says "Show Develop menu in menu bar".

Take the Screenshot:

  • With the webpage open, go to the Develop menu in the menu bar.
  • Select Show Web Inspector (or you can use the shortcut Command + Option + I).
  • Once the Web Inspector is open, click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the inspector (the “More” menu).
  • Choose Capture Screenshot, and then select Capture Full Size Screenshot. This will save the entire webpage as a PNG file to your desktop.

About taking a full page screenshot on Mac. If the page is longer than what fits on the screen, you might think you can just take one screenshot and be done. But often, it won't scroll down automatically. Make sure to let the page fully scroll down if your tool requires it. I’ve missed sections of content before because I thought a manual scroll would do the trick!

Some tools might save your screenshots in lower quality by default, leading to pixelation or blurriness when you zoom in. Check the quality settings in your screenshot tool. Trust me, finding that out after the fact can be super frustrating, especially when I needed a clean image for a presentation. Always go for the highest quality available!

When you finish taking a full page screenshot on Mac, don’t forget about the file format! Saving as a JPG can lead to a loss in quality. I always save my screenshots as PNG if I want to preserve quality. It’s a little more space-heavy, but totally worth it for clear images!

The Vivaldi browser is able to take a snapshot of a web page that extends beyond the screen viewing area. As long as there are not scrollable text boxes within the web page, this will work great. If there are any scrollable text boxes within the web page, then only the displayed portion of that scrollable text box will be shown.

Just make sure when you take the screenshot using the Vivaldi screenshot button, that the web page is at the top of the page. I know in the past if I took a screenshot while scrolled partway down the page, that the screenshot was not correct.....I don't know if this was ever reported or resolved.

Vivaldi is a Chromium based browser.

Sometimes, if you take a full page screenshot on Mac. The quality of the screenshot might not be the best, especially if the website has a lot of images or dynamic content. You might end up with something that looks less sharp than you’d hoped. Some websites use techniques that can block full-page screenshots. So, you might end up missing out on some parts of the page if the website doesn’t play nice. It can be a bummer when you think you've got the perfect capture, but there’s a blank or missing section.

If the page is super long or has a ton of content, it may take a while to generate the screenshot. You might find yourself staring at a loading screen longer than you’d like. After you take a full page screenshot on Mac, you might realize you want to edit it or crop it down, but that’s another step you’ve got to take. If you’re in a hurry, that can feel like a hassle. Full-page screenshots can be pretty hefty in file size. If you’re trying to save space or send it via email, you might find yourself running into issues because the file is too large.
