We can assure you, that if your wife is using Mac OS then Image Capture is installed. Please try again following the steps OT and I provided. It works for EVERYONE, you are special however your computer is NOT and it's there.

Chances are you made a simple mistake, just go back to re-read the instructions 2-3 times and see where you went wrong.

If you still have difficulty then please call AppleCare. You can find the phone number in the UK by clicking AppleCare Contact Info and then:

·      Scroll down to Connect with live support

·      Select your country in the Choose Country section

·      Dial the phone number listed

Welcome!

Does your HP show up in Apple's Image Capture App (part of macOS). This is how IC in Sequoia sees our Epson ET-3850 cabled with cat5 to our home network:

I find Image Capture far more reliable across an array of multi-function devices we've owned than the scanner software the printer makers foist on us. ICs "Details" options (right side above) are exactly the same as what the bundled and finicky company software shows you. It just works, and I've not used any maker-supplied scanner software for over a decade once I found how reliable IC was.

We can assure you that Image Capture is installed on the Mac. It has been shipped from the factory installed on EVERY Mac made for at least 20+ years! There are several ways to locate it, first is:

  1. Applications - Utilities - Image Capture (then just add it to the Dock)
  2. Use Spotlight (the magnifying glass symbol in the upper right of the display) - enter "Image Capture" and Spotlight will find it and launch it when you hit the Return key. Spotlight can be used to launch ANY app installed on the computer. The keyboard shortcut for Spotlight is Command + Spacebar.

+1 on using the Image Capture solution. Chances are very good it will show up there, HP software is notoriously poor and not kept up-to-date as HP tends to live in the MS Windows world primarily.

If the AIO is no longer supported by HP then navigate to https://www.hamrick.com/ and download the trial version of Vuescan and try that. Vuescan almost certainly will support the AIO's scanning, yes it is a paid for app (I think about $35) however that is a lot cheaper than a new scanner.
