How do I cancel an unexpected $39 recurring charge and manage subscriptions for the Nebula Horoscope and Astrology app?

Hi!

I recently downloaded the Nebula: Horoscope & Astrology app from the App Store and wanted to share my experience, as I’m feeling a bit worried and hope someone can help. I purchased what I thought was a one-time $1 “soulmate report” feature, but a few days later, I noticed an additional $39 charge on my account that I didn’t expect. I couldn’t find any clear info about this being a recurring payment before I made the purchase, which was really confusing. On top of that, I’ve been having trouble managing or canceling this in the app - the “My Plan” section just keeps showing a loading screen, and I can’t adjust anything.

I also checked my iPhone Settings under Payment & Shipping, but the subscription doesn’t even appear there, which seems strange. I reached out to their customer support through the app, but I haven’t heard back after several days, and I’m not sure what to do next. Has anyone else experienced something similar with this app? I’d really appreciate any advice on how to handle this or if there’s a step I might have missed.

Thanks so much for your help!

Active subscriptions tied to your Apple Account will appear under Subscriptions, not "Payment & Shipping".

If the $39 appeared on your payment method's statement as "apple.com/bill" then it was charged by Apple, not Nebula directly and as such should be able to be cancelled from your Apple account's subscriptions list.

If it appeared directly as coming from "Nebula", then it was started directly with them and not Apple, and as such it will not appear on your Apple account to be cancelled. In those cases you need to go directly to the Nebula website to cancel it.

Yes, Nebula is a recurring offender in strange charges and recurring subscriptions in the forums here. Many people have gone through what you are going through and the only way to stop the charges is to go through Nebula unfortunately.

How were you referred to this app?

Most users find that they were referred from a Social Media post or Website advertisement to the Nebula website where the "free reading" was offered. The poster of this link was paid to refer you and for Social Media, it is just one of the many scams. That would have been where the subscription originated and made with the developer directly. It would have made no difference in that case whether you had downloaded the app or not as the "free reading" offered on their website is a free trial for a subscription service you will be charged if the trial is not cancelled. That is why the subscription does not show up in your device settings, because it is not being managed by Apple.

This is how the website subscriptions are started according to Nebula:

If you have purchased our services on the website (The website subscription means that you were redirected to download the application via the website of social media adverts.)

To unsubscribe you need to follow the link, then enter your email address and unsubscribe!

One more note, if the charge is coming directly from Nebula, and if you contact Nebula but they do not cooperate, then you should go directly to your credit card company. File a complaint. Ask them not to pay any charges from Nebula while you resolve the issue with them.

I totally understand what it's like! Actually, I'm in the same boat as you because I was also charged more money even though I thought I was only paying $1. I contacted their support team, but so far no response, not even a hint of accusation in my direction, because according to them I didn't notice the hidden subscription myself.

Listen, I've already heard about this! A few days ago I saw on other platforms about the same problem... I don't understand why they are still working if there is so much deception. I hope someone can help you.

You can report the website to the FTC.

As you have noted, it makes no difference what platform you use. The website operates without needing any app. You can report a downloaded app to Apple at the reportaproblem site, but that will not stop the website subscriptions that people are experiencing.

As for believing what you read on Social Media or blindly following any link provided, don't. Remember, these are just anonymous people looking out for their own self interest and are not your "friends".

Who do you think should stop them?

Apple is not the internet police or financial authority to stop companies from charging people.

Also, activating a subscription with a company is not a crime even if you failed to realize that was what you were doing.

People need to realize that many apps in social media are out there trying to get their money, and they need to be aware of what they are subscribing to in those instances.

People need to understand and realize what they subscribe to and where. Many of these so called scams would be completely blocked if people understood what they were doing.
