Why are emojis not appearing while typing on my iPhone 16 Pro Max?

I used to be able to type and emojis would pop up as I’m typing with my keyboard. I’ve tried toggling with it turning it on and off to reset it, but it still doesn’t work. For example, my favorite emoji is the smiley face with a smirk. 😏 I used to just type in smirk and it would be there. It really gets annoying especially when I’m typing fast or in a rush.

I just tried and it still works on my iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 18.4

► First make sure you are on the latest iOS, which for you is 18.4. You can check to see if you are running that and if needed update to it in Settings > General > Software Update.

► Then try deleting and reinstalling the Emoji Keyboard. You can do this in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Swipe left on the Emoji Keyboard to delete > Tap Add New Keyboard and search for the Emoji Keyboard.

► Following try a Forced Restart procedure. This will resolve any software bugs which can be causing this issue. Below is the procedure to perform it.

  • Press and quickly release the Volume Up Button
  • Press and quickly release the Volume Down Button
  • Press and hold the Side Button until you see the Apple Logo (Ignore the Power Off slider that appears midway)
