Unable to connect MacBook Air M4 to HP monitor

My new employer has provided me with a MacBook Air M4 running Sequoia 15.2 and an HP monitor that's a Series 5 Pro 524pm. They're both very beautiful but I can't make them connect. Please help!

HP – HP Series 5 Pro 23.8 inch FHD USB-C Conferencing Monitor - 524pm

This is a 23.8", 1920x1080 pixel monitor. It has three video inputs:

  • USB-C (DisplayPort), with up to 100 watts of USB-C power delivery
  • DisplayPort
  • HDMI

A USB-C to USB-C connection could hook up video, supply power to the M4 MacBook Air, and presumably also connect the Webcam and downstream USB ports on the monitor (assuming the Webcam is compatible). I would look for a USB-C to USB-C cable that is rated to carry 4K video and to support USB-C Power Delivery.

You could use a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter (cable) or USB-C to HDMI adapter (cable). Those wouldn't provide any power to the Mac, and if you wanted to hook up downstream ports or the Webcam, you would need to make a separate USB connection (USB-B to USB-C ?!?) from the monitor to the Mac.

The description of the monitor says that it includes a USB-C cable.

Thank you so much - I have no idea what was going on but it's behaving now. I think I was stressing at the lack of drivers and all sorts of complicated nonsense whereas when it finally decided to play ball, it was as simple as you explain. I appreciate your time and kindness.
