How can I resolve expired HP certificate?

I was given a solution before that worked but have since forgot the solution for my problem. I was told to delete my printer and add a new printer, select the drop down menu on the "USE" and select? Whatever I selected worked but I don't remember what I selected.

It is odd that HP printers don’t deal with that certificate renewal automatically.

Remove the printer from macOS.

Re-add the printer in macOS.

If that fails, remove the printer, then follow the HP printer-specific directions for resetting the printer itself, or the HP directions for resetting the printer network settings, and then re-add the printer.

While resetting the HP printer, also look for any available HP firmware updates, and apply the most recent HP firmware available.

If you want us to be more specific about the instructions, you’ll need to tell us which of the myriad HP printer models you are tending to.

If the OP is using third party ink/toner cartridges, then a printer firmware update may very likely prevent the use of third party ink/toner. HP is notorious for blocking third party ink/toner with later firmware updates. I will never recommend an HP printer ever again (I used to always prefer & recommend HP printers back in the 90's & early 2000's). Of course the OP may have no choice depending on their circumstances.

I don't recall reading that article (or perhaps I have forgotten....I do try to keep up on their articles, but haven't had as much time these last few years). Always great when DRM ends up biting the manufacturer.

I think it will take a lot to take HP's crown though since HP also will refuse to allow a multi-function device to scan a document to a computer if any of the ink is empty (may also be a concern for the OP):

I miss the days when companies made quality products and actually had to listen to their customers or they would lose sales. Very few companies these days do either one, much less both....usually though it is the smaller companies since their livelihood depends upon it. The younger generation has no idea what they have lost since they've never known it. I love the technological advances, but we've lost so much along with it.
