Which Magic Keyboard works with a 2017 iMac?

Hi, does anyone know which Magic Keyboard is suitable for a 2017 iMac, retina 4K? I had to buy a new keyboard as my original one was damaged, but the new Magic Keyboards aren't compatible with older iMacs and the function keys don't work.

I'm on Ventura 13.7.5 which is the latest version that can be used on my iMac from 2017.

I've spent ages on the phone with tech support to get my new keyboard to work.

2 minutes with the Sales team and they told me the newer Magic keyboards aren't compatible with older Macs. I wish I'd been told that from the start.

Thanks for any leads.

For optimal compatibility, I suggest seeking out the earlier Magic Keyboard models:

  • Magic Keyboard (A1644): The standard version without a numeric keypad.
  • Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (A1843)

These models were designed with Intel Macs in mind and should provide full functionality with your iMac. You can often find them through reputable third-party sellers or certified refurbished outlets.

If you're open to alternatives, there are third-party keyboards that offer excellent compatibility with macOS. Just ensure they support macOS Ventura and offer the key functions you need. A great source for these are Logitech.
