Thanks to all who offered solutions. I am not new to iphones or tech in general. Have tried the usuals. Phone has never behaved this way on previous updates. My partner is also experiencing the same. I used to work in software debugging. Not the same, but I understand updates may fix issues while sometimes creating issues. It happens.

Thanks for the understanding, and you’re welcome. Don’t worry as it’ll go away soon.

Overheating iPhone After an Update:

Your iPhone's probably catching up on the update. What you are reporting is an all too-common phenomenon on these forums. There lots you can try...

I. Overheating iPhone: Cooling Down an Overheating iPhone - User Tip

II. iPhone Battery Draining:

A. Battery Drain Info:

The iPhone battery will drain, unless it is plugged in and charging. With lots installed, the charge would be slower. As for how fast it would drain the battery, that would depend on the battery health and the volume (sound) you use.

  1. Go Here: iPhone Battery and Performance - Apple Support
  2. Scroll Down: to "Your battery's maximum capacity"

B.. Troubleshooting the Battery:

III. Give Apple Feedback:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of your issue, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary

If your iPhone really were “too hot to handle”, it would display a “Temperature Warning” or “Charging on Hold” message, thus shutting down and preventing you from using the iPhone.

After an update, your iPhone has lots of additional background tasks to complete. This can cause an increased battery drain and thermal temperatures. Give it some time and your iPhone will return to normal.

I am having the same issue. After iOS update my phone is overheating when it hasn’t done so since the initial iOS fix for a similar overheating issue. I’m also not new to iPhones and have tried all usual fixes. Since this was a known issue that was once corrected with an iOS update, I suspect the recent update is the cause of this new issue.
