Why does my MacBook Pro not go to sleep mode when it's inactive on battery power?

My MacBook Pro does not automatically go to sleep . So it often dies because it won't go to sleep when on battery. Oddly enough it does go to sleep when inactive while it's plugged in.

Any ideas?

Ir begs more questions than answers...

old issue, new issue, what changed?

what exact MAC?

What exact macOS?

did you try toggling changes to Sleep settings?

did you toggle Lock Screen settings?

Remove Profiles:

Unpermitting one to turn off a Mac is something that can be created using a Profile --something companies and schools typically make for usage of their devices. So, see if any are installed.

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Device Management
  3. Remove: any profiles seen

Then you may be using a different macOS than I was at the time of my reply.

Uninstalling a Profile:

  1. Go Here: Use configuration profiles to standardize settings on Mac computers - Apple Support
  2. Select: your macOS from the drop down box on the top-left corner of the page
  3. Scroll to: Remove a configuration profile from your Mac
  4. Proceed from there as necessary.

It's actually an old issue. It's been happening for years, and now that the battery is old, it's becoming more of a problem. I'm currently using Sonoma 14.1.1. But this happened with older operating system all the way back to Catalina. I do remember a checkbox under the battery or lock screen setting that said, “Put hard disks to sleep when possible.” I always had that checked, but now I don't see that checkbox anymore.
