Migration Assistant Fails to Connect Between MBP M1 Pro and MBA M2

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to migrate from my MacBook Pro M1 Pro to a new MacBook Air M2 using Migration Assistant. Both Macs are connected to the same Wi-Fi. I can see the M1 Pro as discoverable, but when I click on it, then it thinks for 10-20 seconds before it says "failed to connect." I’ve tried almost 10 times now without success.

I also tried connecting them directly using a Thunderbolt cable, but I got the same "failed to connect" message. Tried restarting the machines as well. Both has same OS.

Does anyone know what might be causing this or how I can fix it? I would really appreciate any help!

You are better off with a cable connection...


try a different cable if that is an problem.


You can also connect to a TM backup to move your user if you have an issue.
