Is there any hope for reviving a black-screen iMac?

I have a 27" iMac with Retina 5K display (Model: MRQY2LL/A, Intel Core i5 3.0GHz, 8GB Memory, 1TB Fusion Drive) that I purchased new in 2019. In 2022, I upgraded the RAM to 32GB and had no issues afterward.

Fast forward to 2024 — I tried powering it on, and while it does turn on (fans spin, power indicator lights up, etc.), the screen remains completely black. There’s no startup chime, no flicker, no image — just total darkness. I’ve gone through all the standard reboot and reset procedures I found through forums and support threads (SMC reset, PRAM reset, unplugging, waiting, replugging, etc.), but since the screen never shows anything, it's hard to diagnose what’s going on.

As I said I have tried every possible DIY recommendation possible from the basic steps of checking power to Force restart, resetting SMC and if it was suggested via Google and various articles, I have done it to no avail. Absolutely nothing has worked.

That said, I love my older iMac and would really like to get it working again because right now it's just sitting in it's original box...

I know it’s 5–6 years old, but if the issue is something relatively simple (like a backlight, display connector, or logic board component), I’d be open to repairing it. The exterior is in perfect condition, and there’s no sign of physical damage and at this point even if I attempted tinkering with it myself, I am in no worse position...But if it's a few hundred bucks fix than it's worth it as well?

My question is:

Is this something worth taking to a local computer repair shop, or should I go directly through Apple support? I plan on contacting them directly but wanted to throw the question out here first..

Also, is there any known issue with this model that could explain the symptoms?

With regard to the system when it was working, everything was updated and I primarily used various Adobe design and editing programs or internet browsing. Other than the standard Adobe, Word, Excel programs, I didn't download any other programs...

I do recall having a similar issues about six months before but was able to reboot it and restore it to the factor defaults. I probably should have gotten it looked at then but I figured it was some weird glitch?

Any guidance would be appreciated — especially from anyone who's dealt with something similar.

If you opt for a repair ALWAYS take it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, never ever take it to your local pc repair shop. Not only are they untrained they simply do now have the tools necessary or parts available to them.

If no sound is visible when attempting a restart it sounds like a power supply or main logic board. If you hear sound then it could be a backlight or display. To test, Google for how to self troubleshoot.
