Apple Configurator error: (email) cannot manage devices

I am having this same issue. I am an administrator in ABM but apple configurator throws an error when attempting to enroll devices and says I don't have permissions. This has always worked for me over the past year and a half. Stopped working today.

Apple Configurator needs to be updated. Once that is complete you will be able to sign in.

I am experiencing the exact same issue. I am also an admin so it's definitely not a permissions issue.

I too tried removing the organization in Apple Configurator and tried re-adding it, but now I can't even add it due to the exact error you're getting.

I got on the phone with Apple Business support yesterday. We left our org removed from Apple Configurator, and then went through the device Prepare procedure. When prompted during Prepare, we signed back in, and the device enrolled successfully. I checked our org settings, thinking I'd have to re-add the org, to find that the org was already added back. Subsequent devices enrolled normally without errors and without having to sign in. I'd recommend trying this, or getting on the phone with Apple Business support so they can walk you through it.
