System related keyboard problem

The weirdest thing has started to happen with my keyboard. Or the system. I’m not sure which.

Certain keys have started to fail, for a few minutes or longer. First it was the S key, then the R key, and then one other. Right now, it's the H key. (I'm dictating this.) Cleaning or resetting the key, stuff that usually works doesn’t seem to work. Re-booting usually works. (v 15.4 and 15.4.1) Another weird thing is that it’ll stop working in one app but still work in another. For example it’ll stop in Scrivener but still work in Notes or vice versa.

It’s a wired, mechanical keyboard, a Matias Tactile Pro, but it also occurs on the MacBook Pro keyboard.

Has anyone ever heard of this? What could be going on?

Does it happen with the external keyboard totally disconnected? With the laptop in a different location?

Hard to imagine any software settings that could cause such behavior.
