Why is an old iMessage conversation showing a recent timestamp?

Scrolling through my imessages show a conversation that i know i deleted back in 2022. However, the message timestamp is showing that i messaged this person back in january of 2024 , but i know the exact conversation is from 2022.

When you go to your text messages it has the list of all the last people you texted and under their contact name there is a date. I always thought it was the date of the last text message you sent to them. Does this mean someone is deleting messages?
