Messages in MacOS 15.4.1 doesn't work with PDF files (won't open them)

I updated our two Macs to Sequoia 15.4.1 (one an M2 Pro, the other an M3). After updating, if either computer receives a PDF file in 'Messages', the file can't be opened. If I try to open, I get an error that reads "The file could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that preview doesn't recognize". The same file can be received on devices that have not been updated to the latest OS (including on iOS or iPad OS).
