Why is drag and drop from Photos to Messages not working in Sequoia on new Mac mini?

This function works perfectly on my older iMac, also running Sequoia (15.3.1.) I can't find a difference in the settings, but one can pick up a picture like normal, drag it to a conversation (the plus sign appears) but when you drop it nothing happens. I now have to dump it on the desktop, and then drag it to the Messages window.

This is apparently not the same issue was this discussion, which involved a trackpad and Finder.

Any help appreciated. MacOS 15.3.2

It's working for me with Sequoia 15.4.1 on a Mac Mini M4.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Safe boot did not improve the behavior for the D&D between Photos and Messages.

Forgot to mention, D&D works just fine between Photos and other apps, like Notes, both in regular and safe mode. This feels like some strange setting somewhere, blocking the D&D behavior only for Messages. But I have no idea what it could be.
