As you have an active subscription:
Apple requires we have a valid payment method listed in the account at all times.
Ensure the new card is validated (ie: ready for use / able to be used now)
It may be necessary to first add a new card before an old card can be deleted.

"Payment information that you use for Apple media purchases and subscriptions might be automatically updated by your financial institution".
