Will a RAID 1 set created on one Mac be recognized by a new Mac?
Hello,
I have an external hard drive enclosure with two large hard drives, which I've set up as a RAID 1 set using Disk Utility (as described here). This all seems to be working great, but as a new Mac is on the horizon I wondered how the RAID 1 set will work when the enclosure is plugged into a different Mac?
The new Mac would be set up completely fresh, I wouldn't want to use Migration Assistant.
Would the RAID set be recognised by the new Mac simply by plugging the enclosure in just as if it were the old Mac? Or does it only work on the machine where you set it up in the first place? In which case, would I need to temporarily copy the files on the RAID to another disk / disks, and set up a new RAID set on the new Mac before copying everything back?
The machine that the original RAID was set up on runs the latest Mac OS, in case that makes a difference.
Thanks very much!
Michael
