All these years I have been happily using iTunes, buying what I want, creating my own playlists. Now I can't do all that without paying for a subscription. I am afraid that if I get a subscription, all that will be lost. Will it? Do I have to lear something NEW?! iTunes worked fine the way it was...

Why not? Lots of people continue to do that without an Apple Music subcription.

Because technology is going to keep changing. But again, you can keep doing what you've been doing if it works for you.
If I pay for Apple Music, will all my previous purchases from iTunes still be available? All my playlists?
