Hi. I have purchased the new tune from iTunes and is also showing up in Apple Music download section. However I am unable to set this as ringtone. I do not see an option to choose purchased ringtone. Please help.

Was it purchased directly from the Tone Store in iTunes? In Settings > Sounds and Haptics > Ringtone, there should be a section that says "Store". Under that is "Tone Store" and "Download All Purchased Tunes". From what I understand from your post, you purchased the song, not a ringtone.
Do note there are also other ways to import custom ringtones. The easiest way is through GarageBand. MP3s can typically be downloaded online for free. Refer to the following article for instructions: Create a custom ringtone on your iPhone - Apple Support.

You are correct. DRM-protected content, like purchased songs, can't be exported as mp3s. You can, however, find a free MP3 download of the song online. Just find a Spotify or YouTube mp3 downloader, then you can use the link for your desired song.
Thanks and yes I realized it was a song not a tune.
If I use garage band, I am unable to import songs which I purchased and it says protected songs or songs not locally in iPhone cannot be imported.
but the songs are downloaded and I can see in Music library.
