Logic Pro 11.2.1 hangs when saving a new file

MacBook M2 with 24Gb

Logic Pro 11.2.1

MacOS Sequoia 15.5

Starting on 11th July 2025 I noticed that saving a new file from Logic pro would hang (with beachball).

My Logic version showed it was updated on 6th July, so possibly this is the first time I tried saving a new file since the update.

More findings:

  • Save existing project - always works
  • SaveAs existing project to a new name - sometimes works but often causes a hang

Recently I loaded native Instruments Guitar Rig as well - althouhg removing that has not solved my issue.

Also in last 2 weeks I ran out of space on my main boot disk 500Gb SSD (the only disk). I since cleared space and have over 50Gb free. Logic was working fine after this.

I have tried a few things without success:

  • Re-install Logic
  • Disaable all non Apple plug-ins
  • Remove external devices
  • Disable any Cloud sync services (OneDrive, Google Drive)
  • Save to folder not covered by Cloud Sync
  • Save to external drive

Any suggestion on who to solve this would be appreciated.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue with Logic 11.2.1 on MacBook M2, please elt me know.

Thanks for the idea to make a backup of Logic app. This showed that the auto update happened again on 22/7/25 to 11-2-2. After that the issue no longer happens, so probably it was an issue with 11-2-1.

Clearing disk space was worth doing, but that in itself did not resolve the issue I was facing.

  1. Disable automatic app updates.
  2. Create backups frequently on dedicated external backup drives
  3. Different Logic versions can live side by side in the application folder as long as you rename the old version to something meaningful like Logic11-0-1 or so, avoid special characters like dots and comma.

10% free space on your hard drives is the absolute minimum to function properly as a computer. You risk file corruption or weird behavior like you described in your post. Do the math and create more free space or get another external drive. Check also the free available space on your systen drive.

Awesome. Make sure that you turn off auto updates so you can choose to update whenever you wish:

To disable automatic updates for Logic Pro on a Mac, navigate to System Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates. From there, you can toggle off "Install macOS updates" and "Install application updates from the App Store". This prevents Logic Pro and other applications from automatically updating
