How do I permanently turn off screen view for Pages on the iPad?

With the last update on the iPad, screen view is automatically selected for me, and I can’t seem to get rid of it permanently. Although I can manually turn it off for each document, that is a tremendous inconvenience when I want to just get at my documents and start writing.
