do assistive access and assistive touch work together

I am trying to set up an iPad for elderly father. Assistive access and assistive access do not seem to be working well together. He struggles with accessing the volume bottoms on the iPad as well as scrolling to top of page to stop music.

"I am trying to set up an iPad for elderly father."

Your father is indeed fortunate to have your help!

Am no expert in this area, yet your question surely deserves some response.

Seems you can add other apps to Assistive Access, so I guess you could add Assistive Touch ok:

If you haven't already tried that:

See how to: Add, remove, and customize apps for Assistive Access on iPad - Apple Support

Eg:

Also says you can:

"Change options for apps in Assistive Access

  1. Exit Assistive Access if it’s active.
  2. Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Assistive Access, then tap the app’s name.
  3. Choose options for the app"

Wondering whether you have seen the useful Assistive Access user guide for iPad:

There's a link to "Table of Contents" near the top of the "welcome" page (link below).

Maybe the article below about Accessibility Shortcut can assist:
