How to get rid of formatting icons in Pages?

I have to convert a long document from Pages to Word, so am cleaning it up before the export. For some reason there are numerous icons which I assume to be for margins (the little orange triangles) ???. I have no idea where these came from—I did not create multiple margins, though there are indented lines etc. here and there. How can I get rid of these? Thank you!

You can simply hide the ruler (⌘R), or if you want to remove these tab stops from the ruler, at the risk of compromising some document formatting, you can visit the Text > Layout panel and select the tab stop entries and click the [-] button to remove each one. The alternative is to click on each one on the ruler and drag it out over the document to see it disappear in a little cloud symbol.
