Playback issues: 11.2.2 has problematic playback issues, but 10.7.8 doesn't. Why?

I've had to install an older version of Logic Pro X on my Mac because both computers running the latest version have massive playback issues on both new and old files—some or all tracks do not play.

Any workarounds for this? Version 10.7.8 works perfectly; 11.2.2 has playback issues. The settings are the same throughout.

When playback fails, there's no dB level registering at all, but the waveforms are visible—so this is not a solo or muting issue. All tracks are routed to stereo out.

I use a very simple setup. I strictly use Logic for recording cello overdubs for clients or personal projects. These sessions involve 4 or 5 tracks at most, with no additional plug-ins. All settings are identical between versions.

I tried deleting and reinstalling the newer version—same issue. I also quit and restarted Logic and the computer—no change.

My current workaround is running the older version on my Mac mini so I could finish a job (thankfully, I hadn’t updated one of my laptops yet!). But I’d really like to resolve this issue.

Any thoughts?

I would try giving Logic Pro full disk access. Also, for fun, why don't you close every single program except Logic Pro to make sure there are no interferences. For the longest time, the application SSL360 was causing a lot of problems on my system. As soon as I removed it, everything went smoothly, and I haven't had a problem since.

One last thing to consider is to create a separate user account within your Mac and troubleshoot in Logic Pro on that account. I have found this to be a useful way of working through murky issues. Best of luck.

I neither clearly understand what's your issue nor how to solve it.

However two things: you can have different Logic Versions next to each other in your application folder as long as they are manually renamed with a unique name like Logic Pro 10-7-8 (I avoid dots and any other special characters than "-" or "_"). The most recent version should not be renamed.
