A permission recognition problem with a SSD

I cannot add a folder on my SSD so I went to More info - everything looks right. I can unlock but when I try to change something it tells me I do not have the necessary permission. Ignoring ownership doesn't work. Is permission tied to the computer log-in? I'm totally lost on this one. How do I get control(permission) of my drive back?

I am on a iMac using Sequoia 15.6.1 and have a Crucial X8 4TB external SSD which in the past was able to add folders to.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 15.6

What does, "everything looks right" mean?

How is the drive formatted?

NTFS requires third-party software to allow you to write to it. If you could use it before, the software may not be compatible with that version of macOS. Check with the drive manufacture for an update to that software.

Any of the FAT formats have no permissions.

How do you "unlock" your drive? Are you using utilities provided by the drive manufacturer? If so, that might be the problem as those tools are often incompatible with MacOS.
