Applications got duplicated on my iMac after upgrading to macOS 15.6.1

Has anybody any idea how to deal with the duplication of Applications caused by the security patch to "upgrade" an iMac to 15.6.1?

I don't know if the applications are duplicated or just the shortcuts. And frankly I am getting sick of spending my life troubleshooting the "upgrades" offered by Apple.

Suggestions, please (the option to sling the iMac into a skip is high on my list, so not need to advise that).

Good chance this is caused by a corrupt cache. Try booting into safe mode then back again to see if it fixes it.

👍 Good work Randall.

It must be absolutely awful to work for Apple at the moment as everything they touch turns to dust.

FWIW we do not work for Apple. This is Apple's user to user forum and we freely contribute our time to helping other users.

I simply switched it off, had my tea and switched back on again. That fixed it. Because the M3 iMac starts up in a matter of seconds I usually shut it down fully.

The good news about this random feature is that while researching the inevitable faults in the security update, the blame for issues with my account to administer my Western Digital NAS over the internet, has now been clearly and accurately laid at the door of poor coding in the Apple update.

issue solved.

While you are at it

As of May 5th, 2025, Skype is retired. This change will impact both free and paid Skype users, but not Skype for Business.

Virusbar... Express ?

Not needed , get rid of it

Windows-like viruses that self-replicate and affect macOS don’t exist because of the underlying UNIX Foundation and permission limitations.

The macOS operating system resides in a sealed and read-only volume that can’t be opened by users or third-party applications.

Mac app security enhancements are sufficient to protect computers from malware.

Adware and Malware can affect computers and are often downloaded from “shady” websites or developers who inject them into downloads.
