Gmails read on iPhone are not marked "read" on laptop

I have the iPhone 16 Pro Max, with latest software (18.6.2). Mail that I read on my iPhone are not marked "read" on my laptop when I use it. Very annoying. I saw elsewhere about making changes to Safari, but I do not have Safari on either my iPhone or laptop (so far as I can tell). This has been a long time problem, not recent. There are no exceptions. Read mail is never marked read.

Whatever the end result, it is a gmail problem.

It is a Gmail on Apple hardware problem. It is useful to identify which device is not sync’ing so that action can be focussed on the malfunctioning hardware/gmail combo first. Gmail which syncs with one device successfully suggests a local problem sync problem on the other, and removing the account and adding it back is a start. Knowing where to start will save time. Blaming non-Apple platforms is not always helpful and too easy to do.

Thank you.
I did just the opposite and got it to work as it should.
I have POP enabled for all mail and it seems to do the trick.
POP was not enabled before, but IMAP was.
But I enabled in my Gmail on my laptop.
So now, I guess, both are enabled.
But I would not have otherwise looked at that had I not seen this.
Thanks, again.

POP is pretty much a dinosaur now, enable all as IMAP would be my recommendation too.
