Can I store eSIM on multiple devices even if it's inactive?

What is the easiest way to store an inactive eSim for future use, without storing it in my primary phone? Can I store the eSim on multiple devices, even if it's inactive?

I have an eSim for a foreign country. While I don't know when I'll return to the country, there is a good chance I'll be transiting through there at some point - meaning changing flights. It's in a remote part of the world and none of the US carriers have roaming agreements with the local carrier. I'd like to save the eSim in case I ever transit through there again, so I can just buy a calling card ahead of time and activate it as soon as I get there. (Note that sims / sims aren't sold at the airports there, you need to go to the Tellcom store, not ideal for a short 1 night stay, or a

I don't want to store the eSim on my primary phone in case I were to ever loose it. I do have an old backup phone that I keep in the closet and could always store it on there. Any other ideas? My goal is to protect it in case I loose the phone.

Thanks

eSIMs are only stored on the ONE “assigned” device.

You can’t make “offline backups” of them.

You can however move an eSIM to any other compatible device over which you exercise control with the carrier’s assistance.

An iPhone can hold quite a few eSIMs (Apple cites a capacity of “At least 8”)

If you need a replacement eSIM on a device it can ONLY be provisioned by your carrier.

Note that while performing a “Quick Transfer” of eSIMs between phones “seems” like you’re doing it …

… it’s REALLY the carrier performing all the reprovisioning steps necessary to move the eSIM onto the “other” phone in the background.

Note that some carriers might optionally provide a means for authenticated subscribers to obtain “self-service” eSIM provisioning thru their online subscriber account management system.

While certainly convenient for a subscriber needing to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged phone; it also provides a potential attack-vector for perpetrating SIM-Swap Fraud.

Any carrier offering this capability would need to also provide appropriately strong, fraud-resistant mechanisms to counter this threat.
