How to disable Command+Backspace deleting an entire line

Is there a way to disable Command+Backspace deleting an entire line of MacOS?

This shortcut can be super annoying, regardless of whether it’s undoable. I would like to either disable it completely and customize it on a per-app basis, or change it's default behavior.

In all the decades I never knew this shortcut even existed...

How is this interfering with your work flow? There must be some conflict, beside simply not using that key combination?

You do not say what keyboard localization you are using.

I'm afraid the behavior you want is not possible without changing all keyboard shortcuts by swapping the Command and Options keys.

Do you mean command-delete? There isn’t a backspace key because that makes no sense on a computer. You’d just use the cursor keys to move the insertion point back a space.

I can’t find it in this list: Mac keyboard shortcuts - Apple Support

Is this is a particular app? I’m not in a Mac to check if it is a global shortcut.

Did you look for it in the Keyboard Shortcuts in Keyboard System Settings. If it is there, it is likely configurable.

In MS-Word, CMD-Del deletes one word but not the entire line.

In TextEdit, CMD-Del deletes the entire line.

In Terminal, CMD-Del doesn't seem to do anything.

Where are you using this short cut (intentionally or not)?

Thanks for putting this into some context. A bit more understandable if it is a Windows user switching over to Mac. Hard to guess these things.

I do notice, (at least in TextEdit.app the limit of my testing) the Option Delete will remove just the word, compared to Command Delete removing the sentence; per the OP's "super annoying" complaint above.

Never realized either prior to this thread.

Me neither. And I find it hard to imagine that many users are accidentally hitting these key stroke combinations, but even if they were, the "undo" command would quickly reverse it. Maybe the OP will clarify.

OP here to clarify

Yes, I do mean Command+Delete (on my MacBook only symbol is present so I misinterpreted). This seems to be a global shortcut on Mac since on most of the text-based apps (including browsers) it deletes a line by default (with the exception of MS-Word I guess, didn't know about that).

I'm a new Mac user coming from Windows background, where Ctrl+Backspace deletes a single word. It is a great productivity boost, hence the reason I'm probably trying to summon it on Mac all the time. Additionally, having Command+Left/Right Arrow to move cursor by a word left/right would also be super useful to complement the workflow.

The behavior I want is achieved by using Option instead of Command, however, it would be nice to have it configurable on Command key as well. Otherwise, I'd rather just have it disabled than deleting a whole line.
