Ipad: Split view: moving a Doc into a Drive folder

When in split view on an ipad that is 18 months old (my students), I have a few students who are unable in "split view" to slide a "Doc" over the their selected Google Drive folder. A message comes up and says they are only authorised in view only. Help!
