No. Notifications are now white text on a dark background. Personally, I have no difficulty reading them. They just look different, but you can't change it, so you'll have to adjust to it.

No. Notifications are now white text on a dark background. Personally, I have no difficulty reading them. They just look different, but you can't change it, so you'll have to adjust to it.

If you don’t want the black background boxes you have to TURN OFF reduce transparency and the increase contrast and you’ll get the clear notifications back on the lock screen! Thank me later for fining this out bc I didn’t like the black either! Took away from my wallpaper
Thank you for that suggestion. After updating to ios 26.1 and changing Liquid Glass option (in Display and Brightness) to tinted, my notifications have finally changed from black with white text back to white with black text. So glad as the black has been a real irritation.
Toggling off the "Reduce Transparency" mode resolved the issue for me.
It seems like that or dark mode is on, or that you have reduced the transparency of the Liquid Glass effect
See if this feature is on: Go to Accessibility · Tap 'Display & Text Size' · Then toggle on 'Reduce Transparency'.
You might want to turn this off or tweak with the setting to see if the issues persist
I found out by accident, that if you press and hold the white text on black background, it will temporarily revert to black text on a white background. Sorry Apple, but Liquid Glass is not a great user experience for me.

There is no "fix." It is operating as intended. I understand that doesn't change the fact that you dislike it.

The only solution that I found at the moment was to use a really light background. That’s the only way I’m getting white background notifications with black text again. There should simply be an option to choose white white background with black text or black background with white text in my opinion.

When you change your operating system at least give us the option to adjust these changes in settings.
No one participating in this user-to-user forum owns the operating system or made any changes to it. It's Apple's OS and they can make whatever changes they want.

Liquid Glass is not just a skin. It's the way the operating system is written. It would not be nearly as easy as you think to offer such an option.

You don't. This is how it works in iOS 26. Things change every year and yet we all manage to adjust.
