Removing Activation Lock on MacBook Air without original purchase receipt

Activation Lock on MacBook Air (2021) — Request for Assistance

Hello Apple Support,

I purchased a MacBook Air (2021) second-hand and later discovered that it is locked with Activation Lock. Unfortunately, I do not have the original purchase receipt because I bought the device from a private seller.

The device details are:

Model: MacBook Air (2021)

Serial Number: W***********3

I can provide additional proof of ownership, such as:

Photos of the device and serial number,

Bank transfer/payment record,

Chat history with the seller confirming the sale.

Please advise what alternative documentation you can accept so that I may proceed with removing Activation Lock. I am the current owner of this MacBook Air and would like to use it with my own Apple ID.

Thank you for your help and guidance.

Best regards,

Activation Lock is an anti-theft mechanism. You cannot bypass Activation Lock, and we cannot bypass it. Apple won't consider bypassing it in cases like this where you are not the original purchaser.

Your only hope is to

  • Convince the seller to prepare the MacBook Air properly for resale, or
  • Convince the seller to take back the MacBook Air and refund your money

Refer to How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support for the various ways to remove an Activation Lock. If you have the necessary information you can do this yourself, otherwise Apple can completely reset a device if a person can provide sufficient evidence of valid ownership. You apparently do not have either. If you can still contact the seller, get the person to read this --> What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
