Removing Activation Lock on MacBook Air without original purchase receipt

Activation Lock is an anti-theft mechanism. You cannot bypass Activation Lock, and we cannot bypass it. Apple won't consider bypassing it in cases like this where you are not the original purchaser.

Your only hope is to

• Convince the seller to prepare the MacBook Air properly for resale, or
• Convince the seller to take back the MacBook Air and refund your money

Return it to the seller and get your money back. If you can't do that, either turn it over to the police or recycle it. It's a boat anchor.

There is no way to bypass the activation lock.

Refer to How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support for the various ways to remove an Activation Lock. If you have the necessary information you can do this yourself, otherwise Apple can completely reset a device if a person can provide sufficient evidence of valid ownership. You will not be able to unlock this on your own. The original owner must unlock that device before you can use it. It is likely that you purchased a stolen MacBook Air.
