How can I restore iPhone 16 Pro backup on iPhone 17 Pro?

HI All , collecting my 17pro on saturday , will i be able to use the backup of my 16pro i have done on my mac to restore it ?

primarilly its losing the camera roll im worried about , its too big to put on the cloud (200gb odd) i have many of the photos in albums and stored externally but also have a ton of stuff, pics and videos i took with my phone that arnt , with the new way the library is setuo its really hard to split up what i took with the phone and what is already in an external album.

i am collecting instore and part of the upgrade program so i dont have both phones at the same time .

whats the best thing to do ?

Chris outlined your options.

I’d only add:

Do it ONLY when your attention is NOT going to be distracted by “something (anything) else.”

Do NOT RUSH.

Read every instruction to yourself out loud … twice. Carefully enter EXACTLY what info is being requested.

Don’t try to change anything now. (passcode, device name, etc). Just move everything as-is and make any changes later.

Don’t erase your old device when given the opportunity. You can do this later too; once you’re SURE your new phone is “solid.”
