Every time I go to check for system updates (been like this for I believe a month) it says, “The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.) and yes I checked my network.”

Have you tried rebooting the computer?
If so, then try booting into Safe Mode and try checking for updates while booted into Safe Mode.
