Retrieving documents from black screen MacBook Air without iCloud backup

My old Macbook Air's screen has gone black (it can turn on and off but I can't see anything except for a green line down the middle) and I would like to retrieve documents I saved on the Mac but I did not save it on ICloud. Please help
